April 29, 2009 BCUSD#8 has not been impacted by the swine flu, no confirmed or suspected cases. This information is a proactive effort to educate about the flu.
These recommendations and symptoms were taken from the CDC(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) website.
The signs and symptoms of swine flu in people are similar to the seasonal flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people have reported diarrhea and vomiting.
Swine flu spreads the same way as seasonal flu spreads mainly through coughing and sneezing of people with the flu. People may become infected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.
There are everyday actions that can help prevent the spread of germs that cause respiratory illnesses like the swine flu:
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throw tissue in the trash.
Wash your hands often with soap and water.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
If you get sick with influenza, the CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others.
