Second Grade Teacher, Denise Ehlers Earns Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award Congratulations goes out to Mrs. Denise Ehlers, as she was recently awarded the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award. Mrs. Ehlers is well overdue for accolades and commendations to recognize her many talents and professional contributions. It is with great pride and respect that we say, "Congratulations, Mrs. Ehlers, on a job well done!" District Food Allergy Plan Bethalto Unit #8 now has a Board approved food allergy plan on file in accordance with state law, which states: Under Public Act 96-0349, school boards in Illinois are required to adopt policies, which promote both prevention and management of life-threatening allergic reactions, also known as anaphylaxis. This document is a guideline for schools to follow for creating school policies and best practices. BCUSD #8 created a plan as recommended by the state, which is similar to procedures that our district nurses were already following. This plan puts into writing the procedures if a food allergy is present and also provides different forms to use to document specific guidelines used for individual students. It also details specific duties that district employees will have to ensure that student’s needs are taken care of. The complete board approved plan can be viewed on the BCUSD #8 district’s website. Go to www.bethalto.org and click on the News and Information tab at the left. When on that page you will see the Food Allergy Guidelines tab.
