Dr. Kelly McClain, Associate Superintendent

I am excited to continue my journey as part of the Bethalto Family and EagleNation. I feel privileged to work in this district and am excited for new experiences this year. We are excited to begin the process of implementing Professional Learning Communities in our district as a systemic way to focus on learning for all students. We are also finishing up our strategic planning process and will be sharing more out on that in the coming year.
Personally, I was raised in Mt. Olive and am officially a "coal miner's daughter". My parents have now moved outside of Columbia, Missouri so we often take road trips to visit them. I also have two siblings who still reside in the Macoupin County area. I live with my family in Holiday Shores. My husband is Supervisor at Phillips 66. My daughter, Lily, is a junior in Edwardsville and my stepson, Logan, is continuing his journey at Rolla S&T. As a family we love to travel, boat, bbq and simply relax and unwind with one another, our family, and our friends.
In regards to educational background, I graduated from SIUE with degrees in English and Psychology and the certificate to teach 6-12. I started my teaching career at East St. Louis High School and then spent the next five years in the Hazelwood School District in Missouri as an English Teacher. My first administrative job was as an assistant principal in Jennings, MO after I graduated with my Master's from Maryville University. My first head principal position was down the road in the Roxana School District. During my time in Roxana, I completed my Doctorate in Educational Administration from Maryville University. As a family we thought we would move to Missouri, so I took a position back on the Missouri side in Wentzville, MO as a head principal. However, as life sometimes does, our thoughts and plans changed and we remained in Holiday Shores. We then decided it would be better for our family if I were closer to home so I readily accepted this position in Bethalto. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as principal at TMS and am excited to continue my journey at the Central Office.
I hope you are as excited as I am for this school year. I look forward to continuing to build strong relationships with the BCUSD8 staff, parents, students and community partners. I am committed to ensuring that every Bethalto student receives the very best education possible, and that all students and their families realize they are an important part of our success.
Please know that my door is always open. Feel free to stop in, call, or email me to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas to help make this year the best year yet!
I feel truly blessed to be an instructional leader in such a special school community.

Dr. Kelly McClain
