The Board of Education approved a plan for us to utilize e-Learning Days in lieu of snow days. Under the e-Learning Plan, students would learn at home both synchronously, meaning teacher-led via a video platform, and asynchronously, where students would work on their own time at their own pace, when school is called due to inclement weather. A total of 5 days are available for the 2022-2023 school year. With e-Learning, the district will have to make up one emergency day if we use all five of our e-Learning days due to a limitation currently in the state code of only allowing 5 e-Learning days each school year.
Below you can see specific information for our PreK-5th grade buildings as well as TMS and CMHS. Please reach out to the buildings with specific information.
ISSUING AN E-LEARNING DAY
In the event conditions are such that in-person instruction at school must be cancelled, administration will do its best to make that determination by 6:00am.
Once the decision is made, students, staff, and parents will be notified:
● through SchoolMessenger (text, email, call)
● through our website and social media platforms
● through local tv and radio stations, as well as newspaper websites
If an e-Learning Day is implemented, everyone will be notified in the same manner as when school is cancelled. The communication will now clearly state that an e-Learning day will be utilized and remote learning will occur. Students will be expected to utilize the day to meet with their teachers virtually and work on their required assignments/activities.
ATTENDANCE
During e-Learning, attendance will be taken. Please reference the specific building plans that you should have received from the building principal.
GRADING
Students will be accountable for completing the assigned tasks either online or via printed materials in the same manner as any other school day. Students will only receive a “present” for attendance once work is completed. Teachers are encouraged to hold students accountable for completing work as they would with any assignment. Completed work can either be turned in online or on an upcoming in-person school day.
TEACHER AVAILABILITY:
Teachers are expected to be available to students/parents during the e-Learning day. For many teachers, other systems may work better than email (Telephone, ClassDojo, Google Classroom, etc.) and staff are encouraged to utilize these other communication tools as the situation dictates. However, all teachers will check their email regularly and provide feedback and guidance to students/parents on an as-needed basis.
STUDENT/PARENT TECHNICAL SUPPORT
In the event of an issue with a student’s District assigned device, please call or email the technology support staff at 618-377-7290 or support@bethalto.org
